A Meditation from Robert
It is for freedom Christ has set us free
Galatians 5:1
On April 28, 2007 the community of Christ Church expressed itself in many wonders of artist expression. “It is for freedom Christ has set us free.” Not everyone considers oneself an artist, yet we all have a spark of creativity in us as a gift of The Creative One.
As we enter the summer season, a season of rest and re-creation, this might be a time to explore our prayer life, as a time of creativity rather than a “discipline.“ “It is for freedom Christ has set us free.”
There are many categories in which artists express themselves: poetry, photography, pottery, weaving, singing, dancing, drawing, etc.
Perhaps this summer you would like to approach prayer as an artist approaches their work. An artist may experiment with technique, using a new way to express the art, a new medium, a familiar expression in a new form. You may want to read or write a poem, garden or walk as a prayerful expression of your relationship with God. Doing such things intentionally may cause you to be present to God in new ways. Perhaps, you might visualize reading a scripture as if you were by the ocean with Jesus, having a picnic, reading to him words that are meaningful to both of you.
Experiment, take some time to write down some activities that are meaningful to you. Let the ideas flow. In which ways would you like to offer yourself to God: dancing, singing, writing a note? It just may be that one of your ideas may become a new pathway of prayer for you. “It is for freedom Christ has set us free.” Be free to express yourself to God and let this summer be a time of exploring ways to new life.
In His Love,
Robert
