Highlights from Recent Elder Meetings
Elder Retreat. On February 23-24 the elders met for an overnight retreat to evaluate both where we are as leaders, and where the church is as a whole with respect to the issues that challenge us. Lyle, fresh from his “mid-winter” experience in Denver, challenged us to ask these three questions:
1. Where are we stuck? What prevents progress?
2. What is an unfulfilled dream?
3. Why are we not “great”
We “brainstormed” together over these questions. As we did so, two things became apparent, our challenges and some positive directions to take.
Nominating Task Force. The Nominating Task Force is now fully engaged in interviewing those who have been nominated to serve as Elders, Deacons and Treasurer. Please pray that godly and gifted persons will sense God’s call to serve the body of Christ at this place.
Staff Searches. Our church is currently involved in two searches.
Senior Lead Pastor. The Search Team has “narrowed the field” of applicants for the Senior Lead pastor position to a very short list. Members of the team are engaged in the final stages of the process before submitting its recommendations to the elders.
Worship Arts Director/Pastor. We are encouraged by the high number of well qualified applicants for this position.
Please continue to pray that God would lead us to the right persons for these positions.
Next Steps Team Update.
· Expansion. There are several options currently “on the table,” including both the ongoing search for land, and expanding on our current site. While it is premature to release details, conversations with the Town of East Greenwich are ongoing.
· Office Space. There continues to be movement in the search of off-site office space, so that current office space can be made available for Children’s Ministry space. One option being currently being investigated by the management Team: the purchase of office space in an office condo complex very near the church.
Charis Counseling Center Affiliate. In order to help provide for the counseling needs in our congregation, we are pursuing an arrangement to become affiliated with the Charis Counseling Center, a Christian organization. This would provide a professionally credentialed Charis staff counselor to work at our location for one day per week. Details will be forthcoming soon.
